Amusement Device

Any Hilliard business that contains amusement devices, such as video games and pinball machines, must obtain a permit for their use.

To obtain a new permit, call 876-7361, ext. 501 and ask that an application be mailed to you. Then mail the completed application back to the police department along with the fee listed.

The police department will then mail your permit to you and will send you a renewal notice prior to your permit expiration date.

Block Party

Any resident or organization that wishes to block off any portion of a street must obtain a block party permit prior to the event. No fees are required

To obtain a permit, mail a letter containing the following:

Request for a block party permit

Date

Beginning and ending time you wish to block off the street (no later than 11 p.m.)

The exact street addresses that will be affected by the street closure

One adult signature from each affected address giving their permission to block the street

Contact person’s name, address and telephone number

Mail your request to:

Upon approval, the chief’s office will then mail your permit to you. The individual or organization obtaining the permit will be responsible for properly barricading the street.

Business Security

The police department requests that all businesses in Hilliard complete a business security form. The requested emergency contact information remains confidential and is accessed in the event that an unnatural situation occurs at or around a business. Call 876-7361, ext. 501 to request a business form be mailed to you. No fee is required.

Door-to-Door Solicitation

Individuals and companies soliciting business in residential areas by canvassing door-to-door must obtain a sales permit through the chief’s office. (Note: If a business simply distributes literature regarding their products door-to-door without stopping to speak with residents, no permit is needed.)

To obtain a solicitation/sales permit, each individual must complete an application in person at the police department and must show a valid driver’s license or other photo identification card. A $40.00 fee is required for the first person and $20.00 for each additional person added to the permit.

Garage Sale

Residents no longer need to obtain a permit to hold a garage sale within the City of Hilliard with the adoption of Ordinance 04-24.   
 
1) Garage Sale permits are no longer needed;
2) No more than three signs are allowed and cannot be posted in the right-of-way; 
3) Signs shall be of professional quality; 
4) Signs shall not be posted more than 24 hours in advance and must be removed within two hours after the sale;
5) Holding more than two garage sales at any one residence within a 12-month period is prohibited.

Non-Profit Solicitation

Any non-profit organization wishing to solicit funds by visiting residents door-to-door or by soliciting at street intersections must obtain prior approval from the chief’s office. No fees are required.

To obtain permission, mail your request on your organization’s letterhead to:

Your letter must contain the following information:

Request for permission to solicit funds and reason funds are being collected

Date of event

Beginning and ending time

The street intersections where solicitation will occur (if standing at intersections)

Contact person’s name, address and telephone number

Upon approval, the chief’s office will then mail your permit to you.

Parade

Any organization wishing to host a parade must obtain approval from the chief’s office. Contact 876-7361, ext. 501 for more information.

Police/Fire Alarm System

The City of Hilliard requires each individual and business that uses a security alarm system to obtain a permit through the police department.

To obtain a new permit, call 876-7361, ext. 501 and ask that an application be mailed to you. Once you’ve completed the brief application form, mail it back to the police department along with the $25.00 yearly fee.

The police department will then mail your permit to you and will send you a renewal notice prior to your permit expiration date.
