Career Opportunities

The Hilliard Division of Police selects police officer candidates through a Civil Service testing process.  If you wish to explore the field of law enforcement as a career choice and wish to be notified by mail when the City of Hilliard initiates the selection process, please complete the form at the bottom of this page.

Some of the minimum qualifications for a Hilliard Police Officer are as follows:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D.Successful completion of a state certified Peace Officer Basic Training Program (this is not required prior to appointment)Minimum age of 21 years at time of appointmentPhysically capable of successfully performing the essential job functions of the police officer classificationPossession of a valid Ohio Driver’s License at time of appointmentMust be a United States citizen
  • Background free of any felony convictions

In order to be appointed to the position of Police Officer, a candidate must also successfully complete a multi-phase selection process.  Some of those phases are:

  • Written examinationOral examinationRecord check and extensive background investigationPolygraph examinationPsychological evaluationPhysical/medical examination and evaluation
  • Drug Test
