History

Prior to 1957 an elected town marshal was the only form of law enforcement in what was then known as “Hilliard’s”  In 1957 the City had its first volunteer police force and in that same year purchased its first police cruiser. Over the past 20 years the Hilliard Division of Police has grown from 17 to 51 sworn officers and 18 civilian employees.  The Division of Police is broken down into three sub-divisions each commanded by a Lieutenant.

  • Field Operations - This includes the Patrol Bureau, Auxiliary Officers, Explorer Post and School Crossing Guards.
  • Special Operations - This includes the Detective Bureau, DARE Officers and Property Room.
  • Support Operations - This includes the Communications Center and Records Bureau.
  • Chief’s Office – This includes the Court Liaison Officer, Community Relations and Training Officer and Administrative Secretary
